Ceiling Spots - either on actual ceiling tiles or in the attic, around chimneys, skylights, in the corners and roof valleys look for areas where water may enter. There may be actual wet areas or dried leaks that have a brownish edge that resembles a coffee stain. Missing Granules - this initially looks like gravel or dirt in the gutters or along the drop line of your roof Algae or Mold Growth - often occurs in shady areas of your roof and looks like dark localized discoloration on the shingles Buckling - ridges that appear either vertically or horizontally along the roof Damaged Flashing - bent or curled metal around chimneys or skylights Missing or torn shingles Flapping Tabs - when the tabs of the shingles flap in the wind - these need to be glued down or replaced before the become further damaged or lost Rotting - The shingle appears to be falling apart or have holes. Check the attic for water damage, proper ventilation and/or rot Bubbling - when shingles have bubbled areas or bumps. Be sure to check the attic for proper ventilation Termite Damage - Shakes appear like dry skin or appear to be crumbling. Get a pest control expert to check for termite damage throughout the house. Repair the shakes in conjunction with the pest treatment |
